Cwejman S1 MK2: DJ Puzzle Makes Some Fat Sounds

January 10, 2008
Cwejman Part Two

DJ Puzzle is back with his sweet wristbands and the Cwejman S1 MK2 semi-modular, monophonic, analog synth. If you haven't learned how to pronounce Cwejman, yet, you should watch this video.

Jason also shows how capable the Cwejman is at providing a wide range of tones. He also shares some tips and tricks on how to fatten up the sound on this monophonic synth.

Thanks DJ puzzle for being really retarded and not knowing how to use a synth. Those little holes on the bottom of the synth are for putting patch cables in. Of course you wouldn't know where they go because you don't know how to use synths. It's just too bad that a $3600 piece of gear is wasted on the likes of this retard. OHHHHHH, I just discovered FM!!!!!!!!!!!!
FAIL....

JASON DONNELLY: In our previous demonstration, we worked with a single oscillator creating a simple sine wave. I'm going to add a second oscillator and this, over here to my left, these three sections are your oscillators. Worked with the top, that's oscillator 1. We'll just work with the second one, oscillator 2, so I can get that. I'm going to turn down one so we can listen to two.

[JASON DONNELLY TESTING OSCILLATOR 2]

And on this one, what I want to do is, I think with this one, I'm going to give it a little octave shift, up one octave, and I'm going to give it a little bit of a different sine. Let's not use a sine wave actually. Let's experiment. Let's try a sawtooth.

[JASON DONNELLY TESTING OSCILLATOR 2]

And with that, what I think we'll do is detune it slightly, so I'm going to bring up the oscillator 1 [JASON DONNELLY PLAYING A NOTE WITH OSCILLATOR 1 AND 2] and now you hear two oscillators [JASON DONNELLY PLAYING A NOTE WITH OSCILLATOR 1 AND 2] one with a sine and another with a saw [JASON DONNELLY PLAYING A NOTE WITH OSCILLATOR 1 AND 2] waveform. The key is detuning each slightly [JASON DONNELLY PLAYING A NOTE WITH OSCILLATOR 1 AND 2] to fatten it up, so I'm going to do that.

[JASON DONNELLY DETUNING OSCILLATORS 1 AND 2 TO CREATE A FAT SOUND]

This also has an analog FM on this second waveform. I'm going to give it a little bit of the FM.

[JASON DONNELLY ADJUSTING FM ON OSCILLATOR 2]

Move that, the filter, a little bit.

[JASON DONNELLY ADJUSTING FILTERS AND PLAYING A FEW LICKS]

And there you have it. We're now running two oscillators. I made it for a cool lead, you know, a funky lead...

[JASON DONNELLY AUDITIONING LEAD SOUND]

...and if I wanted to, I could get us a little release time [JASON DONNELLY PLAYING A NOTE] to extend -- a little sustain and release to extend the [JASON DONNELLY PLAYING A NOTE] decay [JASON DONNELLY PLAYING A COUPLE OF NOTES], and now we've got kind of like a sort of EDM/IDM/I don't know whatever lead.

So there you have it, two oscillators using two different types of waveforms on the Cwejman S1 MK analog synthesizer. This is Jason Donnelly on Gearwire.Com.

I need awesome gear... I'd like a free gear catalog!
My opinion is awesome. I'd like to take a gear survey
