At Summer NAMM 2011, D’Addario will be showing the newest additions to its line of electric guitar, bass, and acoustic guitar strings: the Nylon Tapewound Bass Strings, XL Light Top / Heavy Bottom multi-packs, XL Light Top / Heavy Bottom 8-string set, and the EXP Acoustic 80 / 20 Bronze Light Top / Medium Bottom Bluegrass Set.

Nylon Tapewound Bass Strings are designed to produce a deep, warm tone while providing a smooth, comfortable feel. These strings are wound using a flattened black nylon, which is polished to a smooth finish. Made to last, these well-balanced strings are said to be engineered to provide optimal tension and they are gauged to fit properly on standard bass saddles and nuts. Designed to deliver a vintage tone ranging from the “thump” of an upright bass to the focused depth of traditional flatwound strings, Tapewounds may be used on fretted or fretless basses.

D’Addario has added two other strings as well: the ETB92S Nylon Tapewound Short Scale Bass set and the ETB92-5 Nylon Tapewound Long Scale 5-string set. Nylon Tapewound Bass Strings are $62 for the Short Scale Bass set and $82.85 for the Long Scale 5-string set.

Ideal for players of all genres and styles, XL Nickel Wound Electric Guitar Strings are precision-wound with nickel-plated steel on a hex-shaped core, resulting in strings with a distinctive bright tone and excellent intonation, according to D'Addario.

The company is currently offering 3-packs and 10-packs for popular models. EXL140 Electric Guitar XL Light Top / Heavy Bottom (gauges .010 - .052) will now be available as both a 3-pack and a 10-pack. The EXL125 XL Super Light Bottom / Regular Top (gauges .009 - .046) will now be available in a handy 10-pack. EXL140-3D strings are $26.45, while the EXL140-10P is priced at $84.20, and the EXL125-10P is $76.50. All prices are MSRP.

Created to support the growing popularity of the 8-string electric guitar market, EXL140-8 XL Light Top Heavy Bottom (gauges .010 - .074) strings ($18.40) are gauged properly for tuning to F#, B, E, A, D, G, B, and E.

D’Addario’s EXP 80 / 20 Acoustic Strings feature a micro-fine layer of coating, which is bonded to the 80 / 20 bronze wrap wire, which is then wound onto the hex-shaped core wire. According to D'Addario, the result is a built-in barrier against the corrosion and wear that can quickly sap the life out of your strings and your sound. EXP strings have a natural round wound feel and extra-bright tone that lasts three to four times longer than traditional guitar strings.

Last but not least, D’Addario announced the release of the Bluegrass-gauged set in the EXP coated 80 / 20 Bronze family. Already the choice of Paul Reed Smith acoustic guitars, the EXP14 Acoustic 80 / 20 Bronze Light Top / Medium Bottom Bluegrass Set (gauges .012-.056) is available for $21.20.
