[TIM DAISY PLAYING DRUMS]
TIM DAISY: My name is Tim Daisy. I play drums in Chicago. I play in a lot of different avant-garde jazz ensembles in town with a lot of different groups including the Vandermark 5 and the Rempis Percussion Quartet and Dragons 1976.
The drums that I use most often is a pretty standard jazz setup. It's a four-piece drum kit: 18" bass drum, 12" tom, 14" floor tom, 14" snare drum. The company I'm using right now, the drums -- the three drums (bass drum, tom, and floor tom) are made by African American Drum Company out of Eureka, California, and the snare drum I'm using right now is a Gretsch from the early '80s.
I like these drums because (a) they're light and I play a lo so I'm carrying them all the time, and it really helps to have light drums when you're having and carrying them around every night. The other thing I like about them is the shells are pretty thin, so they're really responsive, and I like that, and I also think they sing pretty well so. And the other thing is as they get older, I'm feeling like I'm able to get more comfortable with them. I've been playing them for about five years now. The longer I play them, the more sound I'm able to get out of them, the more comfortable I getting with them.
