Daisy Rock's Rebel Rocket Guitar
JOE WALLACE: I'm Joe Wallace on the floor of NAMM 2007 in Anaheim, California. I'm here with Tish Ciravolo from Daisy Rock. How are you?
TISH CIRAVOLO: Hi! Good! Daisy Rock Girl Guitars; that's our company here.
JOE WALLACE: Now tells about what you're most excited about. You got some stuff unveiling here at NAMM. Let's talk about it.
TISH CIRAVOLO: Okay. Well there's a lot of products that we're excited about this year but I'm going to specifically talk about this one right behind me right now. It's called the Rebel Rocket Series. So you can see, we have a heart pickguard on the two Rebel Rockits here, and then over here we have the Supernova, which is a pickguard that I designed in our offices with out designer, and they're awesome. It's like the retro '50s-style guitar. It's really hard to do anything different with that kind of body style that's been out for years and years and years, so this is kind of our version of what a girl would like for that body style so we're really excited about it this year.
JOE WALLACE: Now, Daisy Rock is a relatively new concept for a lot of people.
TISH CIRAVOLO: Right.
JOE WALLACE: And you got huge response. Tell me a little bit about what people are saying about the thinner lighter guitars, and you've got just a million different styles now, and then not all pink so, you know, people who don't want to look like bubblegum bands or...
TISH CIRAVOLO: Right.
JOE WALLACE: ...you know, the more frilly sort of look, they have a lot to choose from. What's the response to all that.
TISH CIRAVOLO: Well, you know, not every girl likes pink. Now, you know, I didn't grow up liking pink either. I totally loved the idea that there's a lot of pink sparkle guitars out there for females now because I think it attracts girls to it, but there's a lot of girls in bands that are going to be like, "Mmm, I don't think I want to play a pink guitar," so they see our line and they go, "Oh, awesome!" We have something like the Darkstar, we've got red and matte guitars. We're trying to answer that other side of it where, you know, just because you're a girl doesn't mean that pink is going to be your automatic color. And then of course, the response from females for the that we make lighter weight guitars with slimmer necks, really fun stuff behind them, it's just a totally awesome concept, and it's like now finally it's time. It's uor time really as a girl.
JOE WALLACE: Now, what did it take to engineer the lighter models and those thinner necks and still make them have good tone and be playable and that sort of thing.
TISH CIRAVOLO: Well, the concept with me was to get the best luthier I could find. We very first designed the very first model, and then since that, for the last six years, it's always working with the luthier to say we want the best playability guitar for the lightest weight we can get and the best sounding woods we can still get with the most awesome pickups, you know, we're in partnership with Seymour Duncan, we're in partnership with Grover Tuners. We have all the really high quality things you can put on a guitar, but yeah it's thinner, it's lighter, and it's so cool because it's just for a girl.
