Danley Sound Labs SH-96: Only "Spinal Tap" Quotes Convey Its Absurdity
Umm. . . just look at this:

No, you're not looking at a mirrored, or photoshopped image. What you're looking at is the Danley Sound Labs SH-96 speaker enclosure, unveiled at Infocomm 2008. The loudspeaker enclosure houses eleven drivers. ELEVEN DRIVERS. That's four fifteen-inch woofers, six five-inch midrange drivers, and a single high range compression driver.
Danley Sound Labs designs high-end speaker systems for churches, gymnasiums, movie theatres and other professional venues. The SH-96 was designed to meet "a customer's request for the ultimate theater experience," according to Danley's press release. And according to Danley Sound Labs president Mike Heddon, "as Nigel says in "This is Spinal Tap" — 'These go to eleven!'"
The SH-96 is basically an extreme example of the kind of enclosures possible with Danley's proprietary "Synergy Horn" and "Tapped Horn" technologies, techniques that ameliorate some of the problems inherent in multi-way loudspeaker designs. Don't ask me how they work, however, let Danley explain it to you at their website.
The 225 lbs enclosure will make it's public debut at the IMAX theatre at Chicago's Navy Pier.

I just installed these speakers last month at the Chicago IMAX Theatre, but they are at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry IMAX Dome, NOT Navy Pier!
a-ha!
Thanks for the correction! (in my own defense, I was just going off the information from the Danely website) Can't wait to check these out in situ!
