Dave Smith Instruments Mopho: It's One Bad, Little Mopho
The venerable Dave Smith and Dave Smith Instruments launch arguably the yellowest monophonic analog synthesizer on the market with the Mopho. It's a compact, affordable synth with voice architecture twinned to a single voice of the Prophet '08.
However, if the Prophet '08 and the Mopho are fraternal in many aspects, Mopho has several unique twists that separate it from the Prophet. The Mopho sees the addition of two sub-octave generators (or one per oscillator). It also throws in an audio input so you can process external audio sources and mix in Mopho's output before the filter to achieve a sweet to nasty range of feedback effects.
It also has a Push It button, and I feel like I'm spoiling the fun by telling you this, but it's a manual trigger that lets you play a specific note or latch note and sequences on. It also steps through a sequence and plays melodic lines sans keyboard, however, you can use a MIDI controller or external sequencer along with Mopho.
Mopho is a fully programmable synth, and you can tweak any parameter from the front panel. There are four assignable parameters control per program, and a free software editor is available for both major platforms.
