DBZ Guitars Z-Glide: Reduced Friction Guitar Neck By Dean B Zelinsky
Your guitar neck is in for a smoother ride -- DBZ Guitars announced the Dean B Zelinsky "Z-Glide" Reduced Friction Neck, a new kind of guitar neck design (patent pending) that will make its official debut at the 2011 Winter NAMM show.
The Z-Glide guitar necks, which will be available as an option on DBZ USA Custom Shop Guitars, have a surface designed to let your hand glide effortlessly up and down the neck. According to DBZ Guitars, Dean Zelinsky’s Z-Glide necks eliminate the sticky / clammy feeling that gloss lacquered necks are known to produce. Instead of being grubby and gross, Z-Glide guitar necks are said to be ultra fast with a consistent, silky-smooth feel.
Invented by company founder Dean Zelinsky, the Z-Glide guitar neck gets its smooth feel from the process of precisely engraving tested patterns into the back of the neck -- patterns that reduce surface area while trapping moisture and sweat.
About the Z-Glide necks, Zelinsky comments, "This is likely the first real breakthrough in guitar design in many years. "No other company has aggressively addressed the surface feel of guitar necks. For other companies, satin or unfinished necks is the 'solution' and has been for years, but neither satin or unfinished comes close to what the Z-Glide achieves in feel and playability. I believe the protection the finish provides is important which was part of the inspiration of developing the Z-Glide neck. The magic happens underneath the finish."
The Z-Glide neck will only be available as an option on USA-made DBZ models for 2011. The Z-Glide reduced friction neck option is $300 (MSRP).
