Defective Records Klee: Software Version Of Hardware Step Sequencer Released
Electro-music.com's hardware step sequencer, Klee, has been faithfully re-created by Defective Records as a MIDI-enabled software sequencer.
According to Defective Records, what makes Klee (Mac / Win; $40 MSRP) unique is its ability to keep more than one “step” active at any time; visually, instead of seeing just one LED moving across the steps, you will see more than one (if you want).
Like the hardware version of the sequencer, the software Klee does not generate any sound on its own, since it only sends control signals to other sound generating synthesizers that produce the sound. It's a sequencer, after all. The hardware Klee generates control voltages, gates, and trigger signals that arerouted to control voltage-based synths, while the software Klee generates MIDI signals that are then routed to either software or hardware-based MIDI synthesizers.
The Klee software sequencer offers MIDI output to any hardware or software synth; internal or MIDI clock control; 10 preset slots for instant recall of parameters; the capability to load from and save presets to disk; a built-in clock divide capability; synchronous loading of patterns; a MIDI-controllable baseline note; and a custom definable note range, which allows for alternative scales.
