De La Mancha Faderratic: Old Heroes Never Die, They Just Cross-Fade Away

September 16, 2008
de la manch faderratic

Continuing their perennial quest to uncapitalize proper nouns, de la Mancha releases faderratic. If you're looking to cross-fade like you've never cross-faded before, prepare for some sheer pandemonium -- some utter cross-fading mayhem -- because faderratic is like having two tickets to a demolition derby where instead of cars, you've got cross-faders, crashing left and right, switching between two different stereo inputs.

Crazy, you say? Maybe so -- but maybe it's just crazy enough to work in a society so hungry for cross-fades that it disturbs the peace. Of course, faderratic cross-fades things to the extreme -- it's become self-aware, and it's quite a little shape-shifter, offering controls for fade shape, length, limits, frequency and probability.

How does it work? Good question. de la Mancha's faderratic works by generating a pulse on a tempo-sync frequency -- you still with me? -- and based on probability and other mathematical equations invented by the Dutch -- it may or may not trigger a cross-fade event. You never know, which is what makes it so dangerous, and the fact that it can cross-fade anywhere, at any time, makes it Bangkok Dangerous. You even have the option of making the fader auto-return to either side, and depending on the mood and how the barometric pressure is feeling in your joints, you can either trigger a fade manually or even control the fader movement with complete manual-ness.

Word on the street is that faderratic is a multi-input effect plugin with two stereo inputs. If your host doesn't allow multi-input effects, cross-fading is a no-go. Instead, you can use faderratic as a gate, cross-fading a single stereo in with silence.
