TB-303, Ableton Live Play Important Role In Hardfloor's Live Performance

June 29, 2007
Roland TB-303 Still Vital in Main Live Set For Hardfloor

In our third installment with Germany's Hardfloor, we get into a deeper conversation about production and distribution. Oliver and Ramon talk in depth about translating their analog sounds to digital media.

Much like the majority of our Movement interviews, our interview with Hardfloor moved over into conversations about digital versus analog. Again, vinyl is still considered to be a vital part of the scene, and digital is quickly become a good supplemental way to distribute. Like so many producers, though, vinyl records are still of great importance.

[HARDFLOOR PERFORMING LIVE]

BILL HOLLAND: You take that live, obviously your plugins. Do you have a laptop that you work with or do you put your sequences into a hardware sampler/sequencer?

RAMON ZENKER: We got a, at the moment we got a hardware workstation from Yamaha. I took a lot of the sounds from the protection into this hardware sequencer, and that's how we work at the moment for live. We don't use a laptop at the moment so it works for all the years very fine with this hardware workstation.

BILL HOLLAND: Great. That's really, really interesting to hear that. You're combining the analog with the digital and in regard to that, are you pressing vinyl records and releasing digital recordings? And where do you see that going? A lot of people told me that they see the CD going out the window in the future but they think vinyl records will be still released with digital recordings. What do you think about that?

OLIVER BONDZIO: Well, that's a good question. At the moment, we're doing everything, of course still vinyl, CDs selling good, and MP3s are just starting up the sales but we're on Beatport, were on iTunes and all the main distributors, and yeah we see what happens in the future but I'm a vinyl freak and we're still releasing vinyl if it's only for 500 or 700 limited copies but we're still doing this.

BILL HOLLAND: I love vinyl too. I'm also a big vinyl collector. It's that low end you can't get with any other type of media so far. It's just you can't get that. I love that, so. Well thank you very much for being with us. We're here with Hardfloor. Thanks again guys.

OLIVER BONDZIO: You're welcome.

RAMON ZENKER: You're welcome. Thank you.

BILL HOLLAND: I'm here for Gearwire.Com. I'm Bill Holland and we'll be back soon with more from Movement 2007.
