Ableton Live Layers Subtle Textures In Kate Simko's Movement 2007 Set
Kate Simko originally studied classical piano and photography at the University of Miami. Moving to Chicago shortly thereafter, she switched gears and went into the music technology program at Northwestern.
After moving to Chile for a short period, she returned to Chicago; ready to expose the world to her own personal production work. Since then, she has released a handful of EPs and an LP.
In performance, Kate use Ableton's mixing and sequencing abilities to the fullest. In this video from Movement 2007, note that much of her time is spent tweaking the levels of several different channels in Ableton Live.
The advantage to using Ableton Live as a half-production/half-DJ tool is the flexibility it allows. This becomes especially important in a minimal set, the focus of which has always been to create intricate layers out of simple, subtle tracks.
With a seemingly unlimited amount of layering provided, the options are endless as to what you can actually do with the software.
