Opcode Studiovision And Ableton Live Run Sequences For Robert Rich @ Movement 2007
In part two of our interview with Robert Rich, we delve deeper into his live setup. Robert discusses the pros and cons of new technology and how he incorporates both. In the clips shown, he is operating both a mac powerbook with Ableton Live and an older mac with Opcode Studiovision.
Also in this clip are the homemade wind instruments he designs from PVC pipes. Robert has developed quite a few of these, and had about eight different ones on sight while we were shooting. He alternates the use of these with tweaking the various effects stompboxes and units he surrounds himself with.

BILL HOLLAND: I noticed two laptops up there. What software were you running up there? And is it pre sequenced or is it more intuitive, more of an improvisational experience.
ROBERT RICH: It's a mixture of everything. There's a medium old Mac running OS 10 and Ableton Live, and then a very old laptop running Opcode Studio Vision and there's a very old Opcode interface in there.

ROBERT RICH: That's running some of my older pieces because some of my music goes back 20 years and I have a lot of pieces that are files in Studio Vision, and it will be a real pain to, you know, move everything over to some newer format, and sometimes I just get too busy and so when I go out on tour, I just pull out the old stuff. It's easier.
