Digidesign C|24 control surface at AES

The Digidesign C|24 control surface may be reminiscent of the popular Control|24, but it was built from the ground up with sleek features to coordinate the C|24 with trends in software advancements. It's great for both home and high-end studios and will be bundled with Pro Tools LE or Pro Tools HD packages in the future.

Check out this video to catch a glimpse of the C|24 and hear what it can do apart from looking like studio eye candy.

JOE WALLACE: I'm Joe Wallace for Gearwire.Com. We're at Digidesign. We're talking with Gannon about the brand new C|24. Tell me a little bit about this fantastic console here.

GANNON KASHIWA: All right. C|24, brand new from the ground up. It has probably the same feature set as the original Control|24 so we're looking at 24 bankable faders, 24 encoders, 24 scribble strips, 16 high-quality microphone preamps, these are of the 003 design. It has an 8 x 2 stereo sub mixer that is routable directly to the monitor section, so unlike the old one where you had to patch out and patch back into here what's in the sub-mixer, you just hit a button that says "To Mix". A completely redesigned analog section. This is 5.1 surround. It has main speakers, alt speakers, and studio speakers, support for talk back microphones, two listen-back microphones. Each of the speaker outputs is trimmable in 0.5-dB increments to plus and minus 10 dB.

Below that, we have a full edit mode section. All of the controls and tools and windows situations are there, and we have a full transport section with a jog and shuttle wheel with built-in trim.

A couple of new additions that were not on the original Control|24 are a limited set of soft keys which allow you to access some of the more advanced automation features in 7.2 like preview mode, punch, latch, stop, and all those things. So really there it is. It's a gorgeous way to work.

JOE WALLACE: Now we're looking at a high-end project studio or a small standalone studio?

GANNON KASHIWA: Exactly. And we have bundles that support the entry into both of those markets, so we have a C|24 LE bundle and a C|24 HD bundle. Each one of those, you get a 003 Rack in the LE bundle, all the cabling required to get the thing up and running. Same thing with HD. It's an HD 2 with all the cables and interfaces that you need to get up and running. Significant savings, and those are being introduced right at the same time as the console itself. So C|24 is also following the footsteps of Control|24 which was one of our best-selling consoles ever. We sold over 6,000 Control|24's so this found the right niche. There's nothing else in this market niche that does what this does at that value.

JOE WALLACE: Well there you have it. That is the scoop on the C|24. Im Joe Wallace with Gannon from Digidesign for Gearwire.Com.
