Dixie Guitar Traders: They Want Your Used Oranges

February 25, 2008
Dixie Amp Traders

In previous videos, we took a look at some of the pristine, vintage guitars at Dixie Guitar Traders. Now Glenn shows us some of the vintage amps. Right now, those include a MESA Boogie Mark 1, a 1968 Fender Twin Reverb, several Marshall amps -- including a baritone, and even a 1920's era Dickerson.

I assume the Dickerson was previously owned by Steamboat Willie. Then again, I also assumed that all amps from the 1920's were in black and white, and I guess I was wrong about that.

Camera Work

Loved seeing the amps but please work on the shaky cam. I got a headache watching that two minutes of video. Keep the camera pointed in one direction for a few more seconds, rather then trying to move so quickly. Just try and keep the camera steady as lots of movement is hard on the viewer.

you were doing the interview kind of on the fly, weren't you? I don't think you had a camera op or sound guy down there. This was more of a Pat-on-the-road segment, I believe? Anyway, good stuff.

PATRICK OGLE: You have a lot of amps here and you do --

GLENN: There's a -- You have something like an early, very early Mark Series Mesa Boogie. This is a very desirable amp right here, and I want to say it's like an '87 -- late '70s, early '80s Mark I. This is a 1968 Fender Twin, another desirable piece right here.

PATRICK OGLE: What is this here?

GLENN: This is a 1920s Dickerson amp, Art Deco. That's a 1950s Gibson GA80 if I'm correct, a Vari-Tone amp.

PATRICK OGLE: This one [INDISCERNIBLE] they're just like kind of almost tone woods on the cabinets on those?

GLENN: Oh I don't know [OVERLAPPING].

PATRICK OGLE: Is that a '50s or a '60s?

GLENN: It's a '50s

PATRICK OGLE: Fifties. Yeah.

GLENN: Yeah. Older Marshall right here. Sometimes we get Plexis in, sometimes we get VOXes. We've had --

PATRICK OGLE: The old Oranges or anything like that?

GLENN: Uh, you know what, I haven't. I have yet to come across any Orange, anybody who has Orange and holds on to them. No one really gets rid of or remove the Orange. I'd love to have some so if you have any, bring it to me.

PATRICK OGLE: [LAUGHS] Okay.

GLENN: Believe it or not, a lot of the stuff that's really choice that comes in will sometimes I'll just buy the store out of -- I'll buy it off the store and just keep it for myself or, you know [PH] Dan will do the same thing because we get first dab at it.

PATRICK OGLE: First dibs. Yeah.

GLENN: And then if we want to move out something that we have, it's that's why we've always just dealt used and then it's just the most fun stuff. You know, it's stuff that's been tweaked. Some of it's you come across some really nice prizes, you know, that just are treasures. They haven't been used or played and, you know, you're more of all over it. Yeah.

I need awesome gear... I'd like a free gear catalog!
My opinion is awesome. I'd like to take a gear survey
