Access Virus TI And Steinberg Cubase: DJ Puzzle Explains How To Create Loops, Part I
Jason Donnelly, also known as DJ Puzzle, knows what he's doing when it comes to creating loops with the aid of the Access Virus TI and Steinberg's Cubase. He is one half of the team behind the sample loops available at Peace Love Productions.
Here, Jason uses his Access Virus TI and Steinberg's Cubase to walk you through the process of creating loops. Stay tuned for the second part of this loop creation tutorial with DJ Puzzle at Gearwire.com.
JASON DONNELLY: My name's Jason, and in this demonstration today I am going to show you how I would approach creating a new loop using the Access Virus TI and Cubase to sequence MIDI.
First thing I would do is dial up many as a preset for today's demonstration. I dial up a sound that I'm looking for. For example, this is a big trance saw pad so [JASON DONNELLY AUDITIONS TRANCE SAW PAD ON ACCESS VIRUS TI] I think this will work out.
What I do is I like to sequence MIDI within Cubase using Cubase 4 on my Mac Book Pro, and I'm going to trigger the Virus TI, the sound that I selected earlier, using this MIDI file from within Cubase.

Okay. So that's going to loop. I've got that in a loop playback mode, and the next thing I'm going to do is I'm going to record this loop, the audio, into Vegas on my other PC. I use Sony Vegas for multitracking.
I like to do my multitracking in Vegas simply because it's really straightforward and it has a really excellent editing feature, so I'm going to insert a track, an audio track, arm it to record, set the audio folder where the recorded audio will be placed, and select my inputs. I'm using a Mackie Onyx, it's going into my PC via FireWire so I'm actually going in -- the Virus is going in to input 5 which is 9 and 10 on the mixer, and so let's arm to record. I have my tempo already set. I'm doing all these loops at 120 BPM. In Vegas, you can set your tempo right here, beats per minute, under the ruler, 120, and then also I'm recording at 48 kHz, 24-bit.
