Doc Electro DE-210: A Tele Monster
Since the Doc Electro name isn't as recognizable as your Marshall or your Fender, the Doc himself loans out his amps to artists for local shows. This helps get his name out there with amps like the DE-210, a real hit for twangy, country stylings.
He also talks a little about a talkbox shaped like a pyramid, which I believe was used on the 1976 (B.C.) classic Amenemhat Comes Alive.
DOC ELECTRO: Hey! I'm Doc Electro for Doc Electro Amplification in Jeffersonville, Indiana. I am a warranty station for 70 brands of professional music everything from Allen & Heath to Yamaha.
About 5 or 10 years ago, I decided to start building my own amplifiers
That's the 210. That was made for a country player. As a matter of fact, he used it at the Kentucky State Fair this past week. It has 210's. They're alnico 210's so they're bright and they're very popular. It's a 50-watt amplifier and it has crunch capability so you get bite but not as much bite as you get out of a high-crunch amplifier. It's more of a country-type sound and we had a great time this weekend, so I'm very proud of it.
PATRICK OGLE: So is that the sort of thing you play with like a Telecaster?
DOC ELECTRO: That's exactly what it is. That's precisely right. I loan these amps out to group so that they can play locally with it, and that helps get the name out and also helps establish the longevity of the line. These have been out in production now for six or seven years and are very low key. We got a bit of presence on the web but not a whole lot because they are custom but we're extremely proud of it. The tone, the look, and when it comes down to the actual look, any color can be matched and shape. I've got a pyramid talkbox out, and it looks like a giant pyramid. That's what the guy wanted. It's red and it's beautiful for his presence on stage. It's large and so he wanted it and so he got it. If you want red, blue, and anywhere in between and whatever types of colors and even shapes and sizes.
