DOD FX25B Envelope Filter: Freshly Funkifying Four-String
No less of an authority than the actor and occasional bass dabbler Flea (credits include My Own Private Idaho, The Big Lebowski, Adventures in Spontaneous Jamming and Techniques and Fear And Loathing in Las Vegas) has used the DOD FX25B envelope filter. Owen O'Malley breaks out the bass guitar and harvests a fresh crop of funk riffs to demonstrate this envelope filter's transforming tone.
OWEN O'MALLEY: Welcome back to Gearwire.Com. I'm Owen O'Malley. We're going to be taking a look at the DOD FX-25B Envelope Filter. This pedal was discontinued. It's since been replaced with the Synth Wah, the X Series Synth Wah. They've got a separate one for guitar and bass.
This pedal, the 25-B, sort of stands for bass like it's a bass effect, and if you've ever seen the Flea instructional video, this is the same pedal that he uses, which is why I bought it, but it can be used on guitar as well and we're going to check it out on both. In this first video there, we're going to take a look at it on bass. Let's look it up.
Now, fine tuning this pedal for different basses you might play is really where the blend control comes in. The blend control affects your dry/wet signal. Let's turn the effect on here. Sensitivity is also going to be really important especially depending on what sort of you're going to be playing. If you're playing more fingerstyle, which is just sort of has a lower output, you want to turn your sensitivity up a little bit.

If you're going to play slap, you know, you're going to have a higher output...

...so to make the effect more noticeable, you want to turn your sensitivity down a little bit.

It might be a little bit too low there. Let's bring it up again.

So there you go. The blend control will also make it a very different sounding effect. There we've got more of our dry signal in here.

If you feel like you're losing a little bit of low end, you can just turn the blend all the way counterclockwise and bring your original tone in there. If we have it all the way up.

It's almost more synthy sounding when the blend is all the way up because less of that natural tone.
The range just controls how deep the effect is. We've got it pretty much maxed out right here.

We'll turn it down here.

So there you go. So that was the DOD FX-25B on bass. On our next video, we're going to take a look at it on guitar. Until then, this is Owen O'Malley and you're watching Gearwire.Com.

HI
I'm a Bass-player living in switzerland and I've been searching for the "envelope filter DOD fx 25b".
I've asked in some musicshops and they said it's not available anymore.
So I'm asking you if you know maybe an Internet Site or something like that where I can get one. I would be very grateful for an answer (more grateful for an positiv answer)
Jason
