DR Strings Dragon-Skin: Clear-Coated Acoustic Guitar Strings Introduced

May 04, 2011
DR Strings released Dragon-Skin clear-coated acoustic guitar strings, which feature K3 coating and produce more volume.

Yes, the new DR Strings Dragon-Skin acoustic-guitar strings are coated, and yes, they are purported to deliver the same, if not better, sound as uncoated strings. The maker of these magical strings, DR Strings, notes that Dragon-Skin strings have fewer unwanted overtones, more volume, and greater articulation than standard uncoated strings.

According to the manufacturer, the new Dragon-Skin guitar strings featuring DR’s proprietary K3 coating are the first acoustic strings to make absolutely no apologies and no excuses for anything. With these strings on your acoustic guitar, you won't be able to say that your instrument is not loud enough or clear enough because your strings are coated.

Volume, clarity, and durability are all hallmarks of the new K3 coating, DR Strings says. Dragon-Skin strings sets feature K3 coating on all six strings, and the Dragon-Skin sets are available in standard gauges: DSA-11 (11-50), DSA-12 (12-54), and DSA-13 (13-56).

A note about K3 coating: The K3 coating on DR strings are designed for use with standard picks and fingers. As with any string, coated or uncoated, the surface can be damaged by scraping against metal. It is important that care be taken when stringing guitars and basses where the strings are passed through a metal block or bridge. Scraping can damage the coating.

Dragon-Skin features at a glance:

  • Acoustic-guitar strings have proprietary K3 coating, which provide volume, clarity, and durability
  • Delivers fewer unwanted overtones, more volume, and greater articulation than standard uncoated strings
  • Available in sets, with K3 coating on all six strings
  • Available in standard gauges: DSA-11 (11-50), DSA-12 (12-54), and DSA-13 (13-56)

DR Strings named the strings "Dragon-Skin" because their effect on performance seems magical.

The new K3 coated "Dragon Skins" by DR strings are really quite stunning! I was quite shocked once I strung up my harp guitar and heard them. Loud, vibrant, very balanced with wonderful projection and separation. They last forever, sound fantastic and stay in tune extremely well.

Go check 'em out!
