DR1 Dr. Drone: Is Your Bass Hurtin'? Go See The Doctor.
Do you love the sound of twitchy, old school analog synth bass, but can't bear the thought of checking your Minimoog Model D on your flight to Ibiza? Dr. Drone is here to perform a reverse-bass-ectomy on your live sound.
Developed by UK/Berlin DJ and producer Martin Wheeler (know to his fans as Vector Lovers) as an analog-style software synth-bass, Dr. Drone is sonically similar to classic monophonic synths, but designed to have a tone all its own. The simple, straight-forward VST interface invites experimentation and tweaking on-the-fly, and VST-incorporation means integration into a live set-up that would be nearly unthinkable with a vintage, non-MIDI unit.
Dr. Drone is currently available as a free download from The Dr. Drone website, and the fully registered version is only €10 ($550.95, US).
The Dr. Drone website copy claims that the VST produces the fattest bass ever to come out of a laptop, but you don't have to take their word for it. They've posted some samples on a MySpace page for your enjoyment / nausea inducement. Hope you've got a good ENT-guy.
