JASON DONNELLY: Hi. This is Jason with Gearwire.Com, and I'm going to show you how to create a beat loop using Cubase 4 and a freeware program called the Odo Synths Dr-Fusion 2 drum sampler.
All right. Under the devices tab, you can select our VSTi instruments. This is where I'm going to select Dr-Fusion 2. Under our track, MIDI track, just select Dr-Fusion 2 as the instrument, the output MIDI, activate loop playback mode, metronome's on, auto-quantize on, I'm going to set my resolution, this is my quantize resolution to 16th notes, and I'm going to use a pre-count on the record, back everything up, click record.

So here's what our MIDI file looks like. Hi-hats are up here at F#, kick drum's down here on C1, snare on the D1; these can be easily moved around and change it up at any give point. So we then go ahead and render as or save as and render the loop down as a WAV file. Let's take that again. So we'll save that down, which should be export, export as audio mixdown, stereo out, 44, let's go 16 down on this one, and save it down as Beat Tutorial.
