Dunlop Conjures More Hendrix - The Octavio And Fuzz Face, Re-Created

January 16, 2007
Dunlop continues to conjure Hendrix with Octavio and Fuzz Face recreations
Dunlop is obsessed with the sounds of Hendrix, as any fan of their stompboxes already knows. Dunlop has done it again with two announcements (just in time for NAMM, of course) of Hendrix pedal recreations.

The Dunlop Jimi Hendrix Fuzz Face is touted by Dunlop as a "meticulously faithful reproduction of the 1969-70 Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face that Jimi used on classic albums like Band of Gypsys," according to a recent press release. This pedal is the result of a careful study of the original Fuzz Face model, and according to the information available at press time, the recreation is built to the original specs, including a hand-wired circuit board, featuring a BC108 silicon transistor.

The resurrected Fuzz Face won't be available until June, but Dunlop's other Hendrix reconstruction, the Octavio, is slated for an April release. This is another faithful reproduction of the original Hendrix octave divider, which he used on the song, Purple Haze.

According to the press release, Dunlop engineers got permission to study the Octavio at its home in Seattle's Experience Music Project museum. According to the recent press release, "It's all here: every knob and jack, a DPDT on/off switch, and the exact same circuit layout faithfully copied from the original. . ."

Dunlop is calling this a "playable collectible," and while no prices have been announced, other Hendrix pedals at JimDunlop.com are running at a suggested retail just under $300.

Gearwire Editor Joe Wallace blames the old MTV cartoon Beavis And Butthead for his STILL being slightly amused by the recording of Hendrix mis-introducing "Astro Man" as "A**hole Man". Heh heh, huh huh. Heh.
