Dwarfcraft Devices Hair Of The Dog: A Great Way To Grow A Lot Of Hair On Your Bass Guitar

Dwarfcraft Devices Hair Of The Dog

I just got off from watching one of the most absurd promotional videos of any effects pedal that ever existed on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkiE4FgfHxE). Yeah, they were right when they just said it was a train wreck as I struggled to learn anything useful from it, let alone convince myself that it was a promotional video in the first place. Anyway, it's not really the video that matters. If you check out the sounds their coaxing out of the Dwarfcraft Devices Hair Of The Dog, it's worth giving it a closer and a lot clearer look.

The Hair Of The Dog is a fuzz distortion stompbox. Now why do you think this pedal is called as such? Good question. Is it a play on being the "heir" of a "female dog" or a highly ineffective hangover cure? As some people may know, the hair-of-the-dog is an alcoholic's favorite hangover treatment that medically speaking is one of the most ineffective means of doing so as you're just putting a lot of stress in your liver and in your brain. The Hair Of The Dog fuzz distortion stompbox works very much like that. It is primarily designed as a fuzz/distortion pedal for the bass guitar but works well to deliver the same effect with other instruments like guitars or, as Dwarfcraft would suggest, Casio keyboards.

The Four Graphic Options Of The Apocalypse

Four control knobs helps shape the sounds provided by this pedal. The "Volume" knob is very self explanatory. The "Release" knob takes control of the built in noise gate. The "Hair" knob takes care of the amount of fuzz or gain that colors your instrument's signal. The "Mix" take care of the wet/dry signal ratio.

FEATURES:

  • Fuzzy distortion made for deep voiced instruments
  • Noise gate stops between note hissing, can also shorten decay
  • Clean/low blend
  • Printed Circuit Boards
  • Rad art work
  • Standard aluminum enclosure
  • Pretty LEDs

The good thing about the built-in noise gate is that it serves as a counterbalance for the noise that this pedal can create. We all need a certain break from fuzz, especially when you're muting your bass or guitar. About the fuzz itself, running a bass through it can get you those distorted bass tones reminiscent of Geezer Butler or something like a Chris Squire sound if you manipulate the mix control knob right. Now, don't get me started on the video again so, if you dare, watch it for yourself and try to decipher how well these guys from Dwarfcraft get their point across. It's very entertaining to watch and, on the serious side of things, it gives you good insight on what this pedal can do for you (if you manage to get through all the craziness, that is). The Dwarfcraft Devices Hair Of The Dog is priced at 180.00 USD.
