EastWest Vielklang: Talking 'Bout My (Harmony) Generation

June 04, 2008
EastWest Vielklang

EastWest jumps aboard the harmony train with vielklang, an intelligent harmony generator developed by z.plane. It can create up to four-part backing harmonies over vocals or brass sections. and it claims to do so more musically than your average harmony processor.

The way that vielklang operates with detailed attention to musicality is simple. The program is basically loaded with "rules" of music theory. And while some could argue that the only rule of music theory is that there are no rules, software without rules would either do nothing or try to enslave mankind. With vielklang, voiced are automatically synthed up without merely running in parallel. Their voicings are auto-selected to sound the most natural. From there, only minor, preferential tweaking should be necessary.

Vielklang also promotes creativity by taking care of tedious details. It figures out the root note, scale, tuning frequency and other such parameters so you don't have to waste time telling the program what they are. The only parameters you have to control are those that affect the musical output.

Lastly, vielklang does more than just organize harmonization. It can generate sound, too, modify the pitch or scale of melodies and single-voiced loops and set up with MIDI to trigger harmonization or chord experimentation.

Fast features:

  • Automatic generation of four-voiced choirs and brass sections
  • Musical voicings by using voice-leading and harmony progression theory
  • One-click modification of tempo, scale and harmony
  • Adjustable pitch correction, delay, timing humanization, timbre, volume, and pan for each voice
  • Full control over every note of every voice
  • Audio-To-MIDI
  • MIDI-controlled snapshot system allows several harmonizations per audio input
  • Highest quality with the élastique pitch shifting engine
  • Plug and Play
