EAW MicroWedge Series MicroSub: Low-End Clarity Amidst The Crash, Bang, And Boom

EAW MicroWedge Series MicroSub

Drummers, the almighty timekeepers of the music world, require more efficient monitoring than most other musicians. Their drum kits can block anything that comes out of your usual stage monitors (and low frequencies from other instruments can get drowned out by the drums' on-stage projection). In response to the needs of the most irate musicians and the most harried sound engineers, EAW developed the MicroWedge Series as a response to the need for more efficient natural-sounding sound projection. As an addition to this innovative series of speakers, the release of EAW MicroWedge Series MicroSub gives additional relief, especially to drummers.

The MicroSub is a stage and small venue subwoofer designed to be used in conjunction with the MicroWedge series of monitors. MicroSub's design ensures that it can be configured and interlocked in a huge variety of configurations along with other MicroWedge monitors. The MicroSub has small pads and recesses on the top, bottom, and sides of the cabinet thus allowing for a wide range of positioning options plus it gives you a lot of options for interlocking with other MicroWedge cabinets (think of them as huge black Lego blocks).

Particularly ideal for drummers, MicroSub's design also provides an exact 45-degree angle projection that allows for accurate positioning. When placed directly next to the drum riser, the MicroSub projects its sound directly to the drummer. The drummer, therefore, hears the punch of his kick drum clearly as well as hear pristine notes from the bass player's low-end.

Features:

  • Tuned at 35 Hz
  • Operates from 27 Hz to 150 Hz
  • Axial SPL Sensitivity: 92dB (LF - whole space) or 98dB (half space) at 27-150 Hz
  • Nominal input impedance: 8 Ohms LF
  • Minimum input impedance: 7.6 Ohms at 165Hz
  • High Pass Filter: 12db/octave Butterworth filter at 28Hz
  • SPL Axial Output: 122dB average/128dB peak (LF - whole space) or 128dB average/134dB peak (half space)

The MicroSub's cabinets are made from Baltic birch and are coated with EAW's proprietary RoadCoatTM finish. A rugged steel grille keeps the distinct shape. All transducer components are highly liquid tolerant and all MicroSubs will be available in standard black to match other EAW MicroWedge units.

The MicroSub will be available by August 2009.
