EAW NTL720 Line Array Loudspeaker System: Let's Get Parabolic
InfoComm 2009 was indeed an impressive showcase of audio gear from the world's leading manufacturers. As expected, speaker systems are among the hottest pieces of equipment exhibited during InfoComm 2009, and expert installed sound and live sound applications manufacturer EAW did not let that opportunity pass by exhibiting a showcase of their own. Among other offerings, EAW showed off their new line array loudspeaker system, the EAW NTL720.
The EAW NTL720 Line Array Loudspeaker System is a self-powered system that features a three-way design and numerous other EAW-patented technologies all encapsulated in an extremely compact (9.4" x 24" x 14.3") and lightweight (less than 50 pounds) package. Each NTL720 module has a full-sized mid/high horn that provides a 110-degree (horizontal) by 12-degree (vertical) dispersion angle which ensures broadband pattern control throughout the entire MF/HF-pass band. Six 1î dome tweeters provide high frequencies and are configured in two vertical columns mounted on a manifold to effectively control vertical dispersion. Dual 6-inch cone woofers that provide for the MF range flank the HF section, also loading on to the horn. The minimal space between the MF and HF sections enhance coherency and improve off-axis response. One the features that distinguish the NTL720 from other line array speaker systems include EAW's proprietary Phase Aligned approach where both 6-inch LF drivers are positioned in a side-mounted "figure-of-eight" configuration that extends horizontal pattern control while directing more acoustical energy on axis. The MF drivers' response extends down to 100 Hz which improves low-end presence and impact.
Three modified 500-watt Class D (digital) amplifier modules power each of the NTL720ís three sections. Equipped with its own DSP (headlined by EAW's Gunness), the amplifier modules enable the NTL720 to give a performance comparable to premium direct-radiating studio monitors. Comprehensive DSP control as well as amplifier status monitoring is provided by EAWPilot control software to control either individual or group speaker units as well as provide DSP configuration for optimal performance under any situation. Input selection options include EAWís proprietary U-Net as well as analog, AES 1, and AES 2. U-Net also provides one of the communication connections available alongside standard USB.
Other features of the EAW NTL720 include EAWís FastLatch internal rigging system, a very flexible rigging and configuration protocol, RoadCoat weather resistant textured finish, and a durable aluminum grille. With a dizzying array of functions plus sturdy workmanship, EAW provides that comprehensive line array speaker system you need that exhibits impressive sound quality, secure and flexible controls, and roadworthy stability.
