JESSE GREIST: My name is Jesse Greist, and I am a sixth grade teacher here at the Cloud Forest School during the days. Many times at night on weekends, I earn some extra cash as a folk musician here in town in Monte Verde in Costa Rica.
The next piece that I wanted to show is actually the strap that was also a gift from a very close friend. It's from Ecolution, and it is a hemp strap. The thing that I really like about this is I've had synthetic straps and I really like the feel and the flexibility of a natural guitar strap. The thing that I like about the hemp here is that the natural oils that are in the fabric serve to protect it against the elements here in Monteverde, so as I've said in the other videos, the biggest problem here is mold, mildew, that kind of thing, getting into your natural materials whereas hemp is naturally resistant to that.
So, here on the mountain, I've had this strap for a couple of years now, and while I've seen mold grow on everything else, this strap has remained completely resistant to it, so it's been pretty fabulous. It's got a really good construction. You can see it almost looks brand new still after a couple of years so it's very strong, very comfortable, you know, for all of those rock & roll gigs where I'm bare-chested -- I'm just kidding. I can, you know, wear it without it chafing my skin.
