Edirol M-16DX Mixer Becomes A Controller Thanks To Software Updates
A new software update adds some new functionality to the Edirol M-16DX Mixer. With version 2 software, the M-16DX now doubles as a software control surface.
With the free software update come modes for Cakewalk SONAR and Apple Logic, allowing the M-16DX to control these two popular DAWs with maximum convenience. One button allows the M-16DX to transform, Starscream style, into a controller.
In Logic, the M-16DX is even specifically listed as a compatible control surface so controls are tied with Logic automatically. Both SONAR and Logic work well with the M-16DX as controls are assigned in a way that's very easy to navigate and adapt to using.
Furthermore. any software with a MIDI learn function will work with the M-16DX's new control capabilities. With over 50 hardware knobs plus assignable buttons on the M-16DX's surface, this should be sufficient control no matter what you're using.
That's not the only update that comes with version 2 software. As an added bonus, the expansion of the Scene Memory function doubles your memory.

so godamn boring! Software
Thanks for the interesting
SONAR LE and v2 software
Thanks for review. Useful introduction to DAW use.
I have M16-DX w. v2 software. The control surface setup doesn't seem quite as straightforward as you suggest however - has something gone wrong in my installation? With Sonar LE (bundled with product) the device is not listed as a "pre-set" control surface and the only way I can get it to do anything is through the midi-learn function (laborious to say the least). I was expecting, since the software is purpose developed and Sonar LE is bundled for it to be a bit easier than that and your review kind of suggests it should be easier - any tips?
Re: SONAR LE and v2 software
Hi Anonymous M16-DX user.
for what it's worth, I have the same experience: although there was an additional manual in the box for the V2 software describing how to get the preset, it's just not appearing in the list. Please let me know if you figure out how to fix it - learning all controls is indeed tedious...
At least it works, or so it
