Edirol VCR 300 Controller: Musikmesse 2007 Video
JOE WALLACE: I'm Joe Wallace for Gearwire.Com on the floor of Musikmesse in Frankfurt, Germany. I'm here with Julian Tritsch of Edirol, and you have a new keyboard to show us.
JULIAN TRITSCH: Hello. Yes I have indeed. We're basically introducing a new range of keyboard controllers. The VCR 300 is the one that we have right in front of us. They all have the same specifications really. It's just the different number, different sizes really. The VCR 300, 500, and 800 basically bring a lot of new features into the market realty. We've really taken a really close look at the specifications of the previous ones, and really looked at where we could improve, so you'll see these ones will get you a lot more features, a lot more functionality. It will feel a lot more like an instrument. That's really the idea behind these keyboards, to help you get an instrument feel from your virtual instruments and computer setup in general.
JOE WALLACE: Now you talk about improvements. What specifically have you done to make this more user-friendly.
JULIAN TRITSCH: Well really, from the previous point, we've actually changed almost everything. The chassis is quite a bit different, the keyboard has been improved a lot. It actually feels like a very expensive synthesizer which, you know, is a good improvement on the previous ones. The faders we've changed as well. You've got longer thrown faders at well, which is good. Velocity pads as well which are velocity sensitive. We have -- you can actually use these as platforms as well for your softsynth or triggering loops as well. We've also put transport controls on these as well. There's a new thing called dynamic mapping as well which is basically technology which enables you to map the keyboard automatically to your software and softsynth as well, which is very cool. In terms of the design itself, we tried to make it look a bit more like a synth as well. We've put all the connections on the side of the keyboards. You can bring your screen really close to the keyboard and have, you know, like a nice, compact setup, and also a nice new feature for all the VJs, the DJs, you know, the live musicians, we actually have a crossfade in the middle of the keyboard as well for all the keyboards.
JOE WALLACE: Great. I'm Joe Wallace at the Edirol booth for Gearwire.Com on the floor of Musikmesse in Frankfurt, Germany.
