Edirol VCR Controllers: MusikMesse Video Walkthrough
Edirol's Julian Tritsch gets into the new Edirol VCR keyboards in this video shot live on the floor of MusikMesse 2007 in Frankfurt. Check out the dynamic mapping features integrated with Sonar 6 via ACT technology. Check out how to use the VCR controllers to tame all interfaces of all plugs and DAW controls.
JULIAN TRITSCH: Well good morning. My name is Julian Tritsch from Edirol and I'd like to talk to you a bit more about the new range of VCR keyboards/controllers that we're introducing at this Frankfurt Messe.
Basically, these keyboards are a lot different from the previous one, and we actually put a lot of new features in. One of the main features, which is really, really exciting is called Dynamic Mapping and Dynamic Mapping, basically, in conjunction with Sonar 6 that we have running on Vista at the moment, is a way for you to basically set up your keyboard and all your effects and synth very, very quickly without having to set up too much. Let me demonstrate that to you.
Basically, the ACT in Sonar and the Dynamic Mapping work together. So for example, at the moment, just one memory map is set on the keyboard, and as you can see now, if I bring the mixer up real quick here, I'm, controlling the first two faders on the mixer which is all pretty standard stuff. Now, the pans automatically will be assigned into the pans on the mixer, which is very straightforward.
Now, this little button here, the value, can also be used as a _____0127 tool as well which is all on automatically. Now, the ACT and Dynamic Mapping becomes really, really useful when you start having plugins and softsynths in the sequencer, and what you want to do is be able to have some control over it. Now. It's normally quite a pain to do that. What you actually have to do is actually get a different mapping in the keyboard every time for every synth and every plugin that you have. Now if you have the ACT technology with this, you don't need to worry about it at all, which really, really excellent, so let's have a look at the screen quite quickly. This is just the first audio track here but as you can see I've got a plugin, it’s a compressor. I've not changed anything on the actual keyboard itself, but if just move this fader here, you'll see.
Hey, all the controls are mapped automatically. You can see it's actually controlling this straight away and I've not done anything in the keyboard, which is great. Now, to show you how fast this is, if you just close that window and go back to the arrange view. If I do use the same controls, I'm actually now controlling back the mixer, and that's what ACT and Dynamic Mapping is all about. All you need to is to get the right mapping, the sequence -- and the keyboard, which is on the web site. I gave the ACT in Sonar and off you go. You don’t need to worry about it. You've got a full heads-on control of all your plugins
and the best part of course, you can change it very, very quickly and also you can see that's every time you load that plugin or instrument again. It'll always be there.
