Effects and Processors

The classic Pultec EQ has been cloned and brought to life by Cartec Audio. The EQP-1A is completely hand-assembled and features point-to-point wiring, an all valve gain stage and valve power rectification, and much more.  

Combining the MuRF and the Bass MuRF plus a whole load of new features including MIDI control, Moog introduces the Moog MF-105M MIDI MuRF 110V. Might as well call it just the MIDI MuRF since it's hard enough to memorize its exact name, let alone articulate it clearly in speed.  

Whether you are into multi-effects systems or proctology, the Metasonix KV100, might be right up your alley, as it were. The unit was designed by Metasonix owner, Eric Barber, about whom [scatophile] we have absolutely nothing derogatory to say.  

Juan Dies of Sones de Mexico shows us the Pro Co Cough Drop, which for reasons unknown goes by a new identity, the Proco Short Stop. Whatever you call it, Juan Dies shows us how it keeps things simple and talks about a mod that makes it work better for him.  

We join Michael Una at the Experimental Garage Sale. It's EOD there, but Una still has his Akai MFC42 hooked up to a drum machine for some filtering fun.  

There are now two bands we know of using the erhu in their music--Cthonic and Hsu-Nami. Are more to follow? Is this the dawning of the age of the erhu?  

With Donita Sparks' current band, Donita Sparks + The Stellar Moments, Donita says she's ditched the pedalboard for pure Marshall tone. Instead, she's added a DigiTech vocal effects box to add some vocal flavor into the mix.  

DJ Puzzle assaults the Electrix Filter Factory with a pulsating, knob-twisting beat that gets taken down the assembly line and fitted with all sorts of effects. This sturdy analog filter doesn't sweat it, providing some flavor to the passing loop.  

Do you like the Aural Exciter and the Big Bottom from Aphex? Then you'll probably like the Aphex 204, a processor that has two channels with both devices on each one.  

Alison Chesley, aka Helen Money, plays her cello a bit differently than most cellists. She slapped a Fishman pickup on her cello and has been sending the signal through some interesting effects pedals ever since.  

In the latter portion our two part look at the TC Electronic M350 Reverb and Effects processor, Bob DiFazio checks out the reverb section and notes the especially sweet halls.  

In this walkthru video, Bob DiFazio examines the TC Electronic M350, a delay and reverb processor with some other built in effects. This segment focuses on the delay and effects, so true grit reverb fanatics will have to wait for the next installment.  

DJ Puzzle continues his exploration of the Alesis Bitrman, an intuitively designed effects box that allows you to get a number of experimental sounds through permutations and combinations of six effects in six configurations  

Allen & Heath announces the iDR0, the latest addition to the iLive Digital Line. The iDR0 provides all processing features for iLive systems over networks.  

To demonstrate his setup, DJ Puzzle combines the powers of the XBase-09, Bitman, XioSynth, and Quasimidi 309. Check out this video to hear how these four units work together to create some very tight sounds.  

DJ Puzzle Jason Donnelly shows us a neat little piece of gear called the Alesis Metavox. It's a standalone vocoder that brings out the wackier side of DJ Puzzle as he makes his way through the different kinds of waves you can select from on the Metavox.  

We continue sitting in on Dorkbot's meetings where Michael Una talks about alternative MIDI control methods. This clip features Mike talking about using Auto Hot Key with Ableton Live.  

Crosstalk 36 says goodbye to Drew Krag, who parted ways with Crosstalk to pursue other venues, and though he will be missed, we welcome guitar tech Henry Bianco to the team. Big number 36 also takes a look at vocal harmonization with the Digitech Vocalist Live 4 and discusses more vocal effects.  

After hearing the DigiTech Vocalist Live 4 in sweet, man-on-microphone action, the Crosstalk crew reacts to the sound. From there, they veer off into AutoTune tales and the sound of "poo in a bucket."
