Electrovoice RE-20 And Cardinal Mics: Musikmesse 2007 Video

RE-20 and Cardinal Mics
Electrovoice's Tony Price gives us a short tour of the RE-20 and Cardinal microphones on the floor of Musikmesse 2007 in Frankfurt, Germany. The RE-20 of course is the legendary large diaphram dynamic mic that is used in all sorts of situations as an instrument and vocal mic. You might recognize it as the microphone Kelsey Grammar used in episodes of the "Frasier" sitcom. Well, it does in fact find its way into many broadcast studios.

The Cardinal is decribed as a great choice for singers who "work the mic" meaning they will move around to achieve different dynamics. Although it is a condenser, Tony assures us that it would be perfect for quieter stages, like a jazz venue.

TONY PRICE: Hello. I'm Tony Price, vice president of sales worldwide for Electro-Voice Microphones. First thing I'd like to talk about is the RE-20, which is celebrating its 40th year this year, it's 40th anniversary, which is exactly half of the company is. The company is 80 years this year, so two really monumental occasions for us with our 40th year for the RE-20, the world's standard radio broadcast and professional studio applications, and also the 80th year for the company overall.

All right. This is Tony Price from Electro-Voice Microphones. This is our Cardinal microphone, which is solid brass and wood construction, kind of unusual. Beautiful microphone, a medium-sized condenser microphone for live and studio applications. This microphone is really an instrument for vocals. If you're a jazz vocalist singing live, there's a tremendous amount of dynamics and flexibility you can get by working the microphone front to back and side to side. It's really quite interesting. A lot of vocalists could really -- In the jazz side of things, with a lot of dynamics, it's a very, very powerful tool. It's the EV Cardinal microphone.
