Electro-Voice 2008 PL Series: You Will Find These Mics To Be PLeasing
All good things have their roots in transformative history. The 1970s probably saw the most innovative approaches to music, and so music equipment manufacturers followed this trend to deliver the demands that innovation and high quality requires. Among these music equipment manufacturers was Electro-Voice, who had their share by releasing the first units from the PL series during that era. In keeping with the PL legacy, the new Electro-Voice 2008 PL Series has been released.
Offering exceptional durability, sonic performance, and contemporary styling, the new 2008 PL Series looks as good as it sounds as as the mics feature non-reflective textured satin finishs, high-quality fine mesh Memraflex grills, shock-mounted capsules for extraordinarily-low handling noise, and polar patterns strategically chosen to deliver superb sonic performance with minimal off-axis complications. The new PL series is divided into two groups, the PL Series Vocal Group and the PL Series Instrument Group.
The PL Series Vocal group includes the entry-level dynamic supercardioid PL24 and PL24S (switched version) which offer all-around vocal clarity for any live sound application. The PL44 is a dynamic supercardioid voice-contoured mic which delivers transparency and high-mid lift to bring that plug-and-play vocal placement. A robust, forgiving, and EQ-friendly mic, the dynamic supercardioid PL80a delivers upfront vocal placement in professional sound applications. The PL80c has the added cosmetic detail of the "Classic" PL finish reminiscent of the legacy PL80 from years ago while maintaining all of the sonic characteristics of the PL80a. The condenser cardioid PL84 and PL84S (switched version) are carefully voiced for intimate detail and presence, enhancing the creative expression of professional vocalists.
The PL Series Instrument Group includes the following: The PL33, a dynamic supercardioid kick drum and low frequency instrument microphone that delivers a tight low-end and punctuation needed for today's demanding sound requirements. The dynamic supercardioid PL35 is designed and voiced for tom and snare mic'ing, possessing a unique physical design that eliminates the need for right-angle XLR connectors thus minimizing cable clutter over the drum. The PL37 is a small diaphragm condenser cardioid overhead cymbal and instrument microphone that's useful for capturing in crisp detail overhead drums, percussion, and acoustic instruments.
Electro-Voice intends to make the new PL series the standard for professional live sound applications keeping in mind price-to-performance considerations.
