Elysia Mpressor Announced
If you have become used to compression / dynamics processing as a damage control tool - something to reach for to "fix" an audio problem then Elysia's Mpressor may surprise you. Billed as a "tool for creative dynamics processing", the Mpressor mentions "creative sound design" in its literature and touts the "fat and freaky" sounds acheivable with it.
The Mpressor is a two-channel (channels linkable, switchable external sidechain inputs included) unit with each channel offering an Auto-Fast function that allows very fast, yet distortion-free compression without any artifacts. There is also an "Antilog" circuit that generates explicit compression effects such as pumping and breathing and a Maximum Reduction mode wherein the "intensity of the compression [is] assessable with only one controller." Sounds like a one-knob mode with gating at one end of the travel and compression at the other?
As we saw at Winter AES, Elysia use top-shelf components in their boxes and it seems that the Mpressor is no exception. We expect to see the unit in action at MusikMesse in Frankfurt, so keep watching Gearwire for the lowdown on these compressors.
