Elysia Alpha Compressor - AES 2006
DOMINIK KLASSEN: Hi there. My name is Dominik from Elysia, and we're here at the 121st AES in San Francisco. What I would like to show you today is our debut product, the Alpha compressor. It's a dedicated mastering compressor with quite some interesting features that not too many other compressors hold, and if you'd like to take a look, I'll show you around.
The Alpha compressor may look a little bit difficult or trick at first sight because of its lots of switches and knobs but really it isn't in practical use it's very easy to use. You have two sides which are built exactly the same, so I'm just going to explain one of them. First is the compressor section then follows the filter section and last of it, there's a level section. On the compressor section here., you have all the standard parameters like threshold, release, attack, ratio, and you can switch the compressor from feed-backward to feed-forward mode. You also have these auto-fast functions for the attack and the release parameter, which is like a kind of semi-automation for these two parameters. Then follows the sidechain filter which you can switch ion in order to make the compression frequency dependent. We have an additional switchable a audio filter here too then follows the mix section, which is a very cool feature because you can blend between the direct and the compressed signal, and this enables you to make parallel compression right in the alpha compressor itself without the necessity to rehook an existing mixing system or so. You have additional switchable transformers for audio reasons, and at the end of the signal chain, there's an additional soft click limiter to protect your AD converters. And, another very important thing about the Alpha Compressor is that it does not only work as a stereo compressor, but you have this integrated switchable MS matrix so that you can use as an MS compressor too. Then you would have to middle signal here and your side signal here, and the combination of all those features, just one unit, make ti a very, very strong tool for every mastering application. Thank you.
