October 08, 2006
Elysia Alpha
The creator of the high-end Elysia Alpha comporessor pops the hood on the unit and takes us on a video tour of the interior. Check out the rare materials, mid-side processor, sidechain and audio filters that power this all-discrete analog component device.

REUBEN DAVIES: Hello, my name is Reuben, and I designed these Alpha compressor here, and I'm introducing a lot of new circuit design for this box and so fro improving the sound performance and all the possibilities in this box and also have the idea for this unit with all this features and functions to give the mastering engineer a new tool for this work.

Yeah. What we see here is the inside for the Alpha compressor, and what we easily can see is that the whole stuff is done in a discrete way. That means that all amplifiers, all the circuits done by single components like transistors, capsules, and resistors right here, which is inside, and so you can enhance the sound performance because it can make a circuit up here on choice, and no one had to use components from other manufactures, so everything inside here or amplifier is a gain reduction, the side chain, the filters, and also the power supplies are all done and discrete. As you can see here, it power supply. This is a very, very low noise which is very important for the whole sound of the unit, a big transformer capsule then a very element of new metal to reduce hum and noise. Down here is copper, and out of this coffer, there's 16 transistors like this, heat it up to have a same temperature and so the unit have -- at all times the same, and apparently The Stones just ran away during a session, and what you can always see is, these heavy metal here, is a very solid work for long, a lot of [INDISCERNIBLE] switches are done by delays.

INTERVIEWER: Yes, but I don't think he's gone through depression.

REUBEN: Switches are done by relays, so there's -- and then a few years you don't get problems with switches. The quality faders are all capsule so also not a problem with that

I need awesome gear... I'd like a free gear catalog!
My opinion is awesome. I'd like to take a gear survey
