Stagg Music 20008 Cymbal Line: So Many Cymbals, You'd Think You Were Watching "Blue Velvet"

July 02, 2008
Stagg 2008 Cymbal Line Sumer NAMM

The Stagg Cymbal line has been completely revamped for 2008 (not just for committed bachelors, anymore) thanks to some equipment upgrades at their overseas factory.

We stopped by their intimidating installation at Summer NAMM in Nashville and gave a listen to the fruits of their factory improvements.

ANDREW SWIFT: Hi. My name is Andrew Swift with EMD music, Stagg Equipment, and basically what's happening new for us this year that we're introducing at the show is we'd already made wonderful cymbals, some of the best stuff that was coming out of the Far East, but we decided we wanted to make the commitment to make the best of coming out of the Far East. So, basically what we did was we invested in new rolling machine press equipment, furnaces, and various stuff for them to do things over there as well as they're making cymbals in Turkey as well as they're making cymbals in Canada.

So, and in conjunction, we also assigned an exclusive distribution agreement with the cymbal and gong plant that we're using in China. The result, ultimately, is a much more balanced product. It's got much more improved stick response, much more improved density, which also has increased the overtone series to the point where it doesn't have the gongy sound and kind of the trashy sound that has been common and has been associated with cymbals coming out of Asia, so it's some of the best stuff on the market, and the wonderful about it is that it costs about 30% or 40% less than like products from our competitors.

BILL HOLLAND: Let's hear them.

ANDREW SWIFT: Okay.

My personal favorite, another new thing that we released in conjunction with this is some hi-hats in the Classic Series.

It's a wonderful product with that stuff so it's doing great, getting it in some drum shops, getting some awareness happening and a few artists happening. We're excited about it and we've been at the show for two days and I haven't heard a bad word yet. The response from the music instrument community has been tremendous, and we just look it forward to selling a whole bunch of these things and seeing them in a stage near you some time soon.

I need awesome gear... I'd like a free gear catalog!
My opinion is awesome. I'd like to take a gear survey
