E-MU REPRESENTATIVE: Got a new product we're showing off at AES 2005. It's the new PM5 Precision Monitors. Monitors are kind of surprising for E-MU where we're usually making synths and stuff like that, but as we meet the digital studio basically with digital audio systems, export, synthesizers, we thought that this was a really very important part of the studio that we want to control and provide users with the highest fidelity audio experience possible. So, we put our thinking caps on and thought about how to make the speaker better.

We focused very hard on each and every component. Number one, we have a very famous audiophile engineer, his name is Jun Makino, design us a brand-new type of amplifier. It's an audiophile-class amplifier. No IC chips. It's discrete design. You'll hear that kind of word in hi-fi circles so there's no IC chips or any integrated circuits used in the amplifier. It's 40 watts in the low frequency, 40 watts in the high frequency amplifier with a class A input stage, MOSFET output stages. Basically, it makes the sound very, very flat, very clean, and is not as fatiguing as many designs, many very flat designs.

We're featuring world-class drivers from [INDISCERNIBLE]. We have a 5" on the bottom and a 1" on the top. We have a special flared port design to reduce port turbulence, and you'll notice the radiused edges to keep the imaging very clean.

Connection-wise, we got pretty much every used case covered. You can use XLR or balanced 1/4" in a Neutrik connector, or unbalanced RCA for other applications. There's a switch here that lets you toggle between these to set the right input level. We also have an input level and a bass and treble roll-off switch so that you can tune the speaker for whatever environment you're in.

The power is actually a fixed power. This actually also helps improve the performance of the amplifier so it's not a switching power supply. It's actually a fixed power supply, so there will be models for the Americas and for Europe separately. The product will be available in November and they'll be priced at $249 a piece so I hope you guys check that out and give it a listen because we think we got something hot here. The PM5.

I need awesome gear... I'd like a free gear catalog!
My opinion is awesome. I'd like to take a gear survey
