B.C. Rich Warlock With EMG Pickups And Peavey Triple X Head -- The Versatile Gear Of End Of Days

January 24, 2008
Atlanta's End of Days

End of Days started playing rock in Atlanta in the Fall of 2003.

“The original line up was myself [Matthew Peace aka Buzz] on guitar, my brother Dusty on bass, Cole Fields on lead guitar, and Chris Packer on drums. We named the band after an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie and mostly just played Metallica and Slayer covers in our mother's basement, writing our own music here and there,” says Buzz.

Four years later the band has a new vocalist and drummer and have plastered themselves all over the metal scene in the Southeast. Buzz says the music is very technical, fast, heavy music with death metal vocals.

“We often write long songs, with numerous time signature and tempo changes,” says Buzz. “Our main goal has always been to keep things interesting, though, and not fall into a comfort zone with our writing.”

Buzz primarily plays a B.C. Rich Warlock with EMG pickups. “I have always loved the look and feel of B.C. Rich body styles. The sound and playability of B.C. Rich is perfect for the music that I play,” he says. “I also use a Schecter Hellraiser 7-String guitar, the Jeff Loomis signature series. I just have a strong preference for Schecter 7-strings over other brands.”

He uses a Peavey Triple-X as his primary amp head, and an old Peavey Ultra Tube as a back up. The cabinets are two standard Peavey 4-12 cabs.

“I love these amps, because the tone is excellent on both distorted channels,” says Buzz. “I have always used Peavey amps, because they're in my opinion the best sound you can get for metal without forking out ridiculous amounts of money for more expensive brands that don’t offer much more in the way of tone.”

Bassist Dusty Peace uses a Schecter Stiletto 6-String bass, also with EMG active pickups. His reasoning is that the Stiletto is a very versatile instrument. He also plays jazz and funk in other projects so a versatile bass is key. His amp set up is designed for versatility and for the power he needs in End of Days.

“Dusty uses a Line 6 bass pod rack system, running through a 3000 watt dual channel QSC power amp. He runs his through two Mesa boogie Powerhouse speaker cabinets, both with 4x10's and 1x15 inch speakers,” says Buzz “The Line 6 system gives him all the options he needs for his wide range of interest, and the Mesa Boogie cabs give him all the powerful and thunderous low end and growl that he could ever need for our music."

The band recently hired on their new vocalist and are about to hit a tour of Florida, Georgia and Alabama. After these dates they plan to work on a full length album -- Vision of a Morbid Future which will be released in April, 2008 through Hedonism Records.
