Epiphone Limited Edition 1970s Inspired Les Paul Custom Blackback Outfit: Outfitted In Antique Ivory
With a nod to '70s rock, Epiphone introduced the Limited Edition 1970s Inspired Les Paul Custom Blackback Outfit. According to Epiphone and Gibson, this new guitar is "loaded with all the essential ingredients that have made the Les Paul a classic for more than five decades and is dressed in upgraded appointments that can only be labeled Custom." If you want to strut your stuff like a true rocker, this is the instrument for you.
The manufacturer notes that when Les Paul conceived the Les Paul Custom model with Gibson president Ted McCarty in 1954, he saw it as the top model of the line, the "black tie" guitar for formal dress, formal occasions, and professional players. The Les Paul Customs of the '50s were all-black models with gold hardware. By the '70s, however, a showier Arctic White finish was a popular alternative, and this is the look celebrated by the Limited Edition 1970s Inspired Les Paul Custom Blackback's aged-look Antique Ivory top finish.
The new guitar has an Ebony Black finish on its back, sides, and neck to contrast the white top finish. In addition, it has an ebony fingerboard with pearloid block inlays, the classic split-diamond headstock inlay, gold hardware throughout, and a pair of Epiphone Alnico Classic Open-Top humbucking pickups.
Limited Edition 1970s Inspired Les Paul Custom Blackback Outfit features:
- Solid, non-chambered mahogany top with Antique Ivory finish
- Fast SlimTaper "D" neck profile
- Equipped with a pair of Alnico Classic Open-Top Humbuckers
- LockTone Tune-o-matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece
- Grover enclosed tuners with an efficient 16:1 gear ratio
About the 1970s Inspired Les Paul Custom Blackback Outfit, Epiphone says, "If we were to nominate a 'king of rock guitar' for the 1970s, the Les Paul Custom would be a top contender. Check out the formative playing of Mick Ronson with David Bowie, Lindsey Buckingham with Fleetwood Mac, Steve Gaines with Lynyrd Skynyrd, Steve Jones with the Sex Pistols, and plenty of others, and a Les Paul Custom is right there at the center of their massive tonal assault."
The Epiphone Limited Edition 1970s Inspired Les Paul Custom Blackback Outfit is now available at select retailers for $1,165 (MSRP). For more information, please visit gibson.com.
