Epiphone Dot Demo

Have you long been salivating for a quality semi-hollowbody as your billfold salivates for cash? The Epiphone Dot is about a tenth of the price of Gibson's extraordinary offerings, but it is in no way a tenth of the quality. Many players consider Epiphone's semi-hollowbody electrics to be some of the best deals on the guitar market, and Owen O'Malley demos one to show you exactly how they've earned this reputation.

It would be a good idea.

It would be a good idea. Those things are awesome guitars, and for not a lot of cash. I'd pick one up in a heartbeat if I liked the Gretsch sound.

This was the first electric

By: Anonymous Coward (not verified)

This was the first electric guitar I owned. It was a piece of junk. I traded it in for a Fender Mexican Stratocaster and it was the best decision I ever made.

so fun

By: Dragon (not verified)

I've got one of these and really enjoy it. It's just so versatile and fun to play. I love that semi-hollow sound that isn't too acoustic and the chunky neck that satisfies my hands and ears much more than any strat could.

I actually went to the shop wanting to buy a Mexican strat, but found this Amber Burst Dot that was really FUN to play while the strat just didn't do it for me. And to top it off the Dot was cheaper :P

OWEN O'MALLEY: Welcome back to Gearwire.Com. This is Owen O'Malley. We're taking a look at the Epiphone Dot. The Epiphone Dot is based on Gibson's ES-335 body style. It is a semi-hollow guitar, it's got a 21-fret neck, a laminate maple top, back, and sides, maple neck, the rosewood fingerboard. This guitar retails for about $400 and is a pretty great-sounding and pretty decent playing guitar for the price. The neck is relatively thick as you can see here with pretty small frets. It almost feels a little bit like an acoustic guitar neck. It felt a little unfamiliar at first but it didn't take very long to get used to playing this neck.

It's got two Epiphone-designed humbuckers. They're wax-dipped, vacuum-sealed humbuckers made by Epiphone. That was the two humbuckers on at the same time. Let's listen to just the bridge humbucker here.

I really love the rhythm sounds on this guitar. It does have some decent lead sounds too but it's really an excellent rhythm guitar. Let's just listen really quick to the neck pickup.

You get some pretty decent, sort of jazzy sounding neck pickup sounds out of this, some mellow chord sounds.

It remains, you know, pretty articulate sounding, so pretty excellent guitar for the price. That is the Epiphone Dot. You've been watching Gearwire.Com.[ I'm Owen O'Malley. See you later.
