Available in both Vintage Sunburst and Natural finishes, the Masterbilt DR-500MCE's single-cutaway, square-shouldered, dreadnought body features a solid spruce top with mahogany back and sides for a clear, robust tone while keeping production costs relatively low. The wood is finished in thin coats of polyurethane to allow for natural resonance.
The 20-fret neck is backed with a solid piece of mahogany and topped with a rosewood fretboard. The angles headstock sports the traditional script Epiphone logo, as well as a set of vintage-style, open-back, Grover Sta-Tite tuners. The neck and body both are bound. A single-ply, faux-tortoiseshell pickguard lends the DR-500MCE a vintage look.
The DR-500MCE's electronics are more sophisticated than your average under-$1000 acoustic's. Two Shadow Electronic pickups provide signals for amplifications: a magnetic NanoMag rests at the end of the fretboard, and a ShadowFlex piezo transducer sits under the saddle. Blending and tonal shaping of these two sources is controlled by an eSonic2 preamp system, which provides phase-shifting for combating feedback and a built-in tuner. There's a separate EQ control for each pickup, and dual output jacks allow for the option to either send each pickup to a separate amp, or both signals out the single end-pin jack.
