Ernie Ball Family Reserve Stuart Smith Double Neck: Earthy Notes With A Smooth Finish And Strong Nose
Upon first hearing the name "Ernie Ball Family Reserve," I assumed that Ernie Ball would be hosting a tasting of their company's new small-batch cab sav, or something. Boy was I disappointed.
Of course, you won't be disappointed if you prefer $5,000 custom double-neck Silhouette-style guitars to artisan Napa Valley vino, but to each their own, I suppose. The Ernie Ball Family Reserve line brings the company's artist custom models into the production realm.
AJ: Hi. This is AJ from Ernie Ball Music Man. Well today, we're going to look at this guitar here. It's a double necked Silhouette. We originally made one for Steuart Smith of the Eagles. That was a couple of years ago. Since then, we've introduced the Ball Family Reserve Line which allows us to give the general public instruments that would normally be reserved for artists. This is going to be available in black or white. That's your only two options. It's got the six string on top and the 12-string on bottom, which is kind of nice and practical, and it's going to list for $5,000.
It's actually surprisingly light for a double-neck.
GRETCHEN HASSE: [INAUDIBLE]
AJ: Um, it's got just a bolt load of hardware. It's pretty cool saddles. The difference is that these are normal saddles. We had to clump this up a little different to accommodate the double strings. If you want to take a look a the back of the headstock, it looks like my middle school picture when I had braces. Look at that hardware.
GRETCHEN HASSE: [LAUGHS] Well, that's funny.
AJ: And it seems like it would be heavier than what it is. It's actually fairly light for all the hardware and the wood there. It's like two guitars but I don't know. It doesn't feel like it.
