Euphonix S5 Fusion HD Console: 122nd AES Video
The Euphonix S5 Fusion brings together functionality that is in demand for many cutting edge mixing and post engineers. The S5 Fusion has the capabilities of an HD mixing console with the added functionality of DAW control. Not only does it have multiple functions but it can also simultaneously control multiple DAWs at once. Check out the video from 122nd AES in Vienna, Austria to learn more.
Check out part 2 of this video for a look at the S5 Fusion in action.
ANDREW WILD: Hi. This is Euphonix at the AES in Vienna. What you see behind me is being shown for the first time in Europe. It’s the S5 Fusion. It’s a fusion really between a digital mixing console and serious DAW control.
So, let me just tell you where Euphonix comes from we make mixing consoles for music. We’ve got some projects like Pirates of the Caribbean, King Kong, the film scores were all mixed on Euphonix consoles. We also make consoles for big feature films so things like Lord of the Rings, King Kong, and more recently Dream Girls were all mixed on Euphonix Consoles. So, it’s music and film and it’s high def audio post. And what the Fusion is, it’s a fusion between our digital film and music consoles and our DAW controllers. And what makes fusion really unique is yes it’s an ordinary mixing console, but at the same time it’s a serious DAW controller.
So what we can do on Fusion is I can bring all the mixing, I can press one button, I can have all the digital audio coming out from our own DSP and press another button and I’ve Pro Tools on the control surfaces as you can see. Another button and I’ve got Nuendo on the control surface. But what makes it really cool is that we can control all these together so I can be controlling our DSP, a couple of tracks of Pro Tools, a couple of tracks of Nuendo all on the same surface. So, for musicians, the DSP is very useful because it’s high quality. There’s EQ. There’s dynamics. There’s a router there. It’s for surround, and what you do is you feed the workstation into our mixing console. So you can have maybe, I don't know, 56 tracks of Pro Tools, another workstation has got a Nuendo system playing in, so you can actually build a pretty big mixing system which is a combination of DAWs and DSP.
So really that’s what the S5 fusion is about. It’s a fusion of DSP mixing and DAW control and it’s from Euphonix.
