Fairlight Dream II V2.0 Software: Digital Recording Pioneers Keep On Pioneering
It's a dream come two for Fairlight users as Fairlight has announced that Version 2.0 of its powerful Dream II platform is coming, and they're showing it off at the 125th AES Convention in San Francisco. Fairlight asserts that Dream II V2.0 shows that its technology has now gotten with the program, and to enforce that claim, they've added an army of new features aimed towards pro-level users.
Dream II V2.0 comes out after months of research and development fueled by a focus on the customer. The converged audio and video platform boasts dreamy workflow efficiencies. It imports, converts and exports a wide load of media file types, plays and records video in realtime all the way up to uncompressed HD, cuts and pastes, copies and conforms and even up-converts SD to HD or insert watermarks on import or export.
On the audio side of things, it can play and mix 192 audio tracks in perfect sample sync or record 96 tracks simultaneously without dropouts, late starts or phasing. It's ideal for heavy audio / video products.
Dream II also allows you to apply up to six third-party plugins per channel in addition to Dream II's native channel processing which features four-band EQ, hi- and lo-pass filters, three stage dynamics (compression, limiting, expanding / gating). It also supports VST.
In terms of control, Dream II gives you two choices, which can even be employed simultaneously. You can work with the mouse-driven graphical interface and // or map parameters to the knobs and faders on Fairlight's fader blocks or their Xynergi Pad controller. Mapping is made easy with Fleximap software, which contains preconceived maps for over 200 plugins. You can automate instantly with Touch-write by using mouse or surface controls and perform moves like graphical editing of automation curves. If you've got complicated plugin setups, these can be saved and recalled for future use. Saving takes note of everything down to every parameter in every plug or processing block.
