Fender Hot Rod Deluxe Vintage Modified Pushes Meaning-Envelope Of The Phrase "Vintage Modified"

February 02, 2009
Fender Hot Rod Deluxe Vintage Modified Winter NAMM 2009

While the tag "Vintage Modified" made sense for the re-imagining of the Champ, the Telecaster and the Jazz Bass, I'm not sure the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe -- just a little over fifteen years old -- qualifies as "Vintage." Not that Fender cares what I have to say, no matter how many blood-soaked letters I send them.

Regardless, we gave the new Fender Deluxe Vintage Modified a listen at Winter NAMM 2009. It certainly is modified.

FENDER DELUXE VM GUITAR AMP

By: DARYL PARTLOW (not verified)

YOU CAN NOT CHANGE THE STOCK 12IN. SPEAKER BECAUSE ALMOST ANY REPLACEMENT SPEAKER IS TO DEEP. THE ORGINAL SPEAKER IS RIGHT UP AGAINST THE TRANSFORMER AND THE 6L6 POWER TUBES. CAN ANYONE GIVE ME AN ANSWER FOR THIS ????? FENDER WAS NOT ABLE TOO....
THE ORG. SPEAKER IS 4.7 INCHES DEEP AND A VINTAGE 30 IS 5.3 SO THERE IS NO WAY UNLESS YOU REBAFFLE AND MOVE THE SPEAKER OVER.

I have tried the following

By: Anonymous Coward (not verified)

I have tried the following speakers in my hot rod: electrovoice evm12l, evm12s, pv scorpion, sheffield, celestion g12 neo, vox neo dog, jensen from twin reissue, old fender 15 from a bassman cabinet, and several other 12 and 15 inchers' Not one of them sounded as good as the stock eminence in a live format. The rest of the guys keep saying give it up the amp sounds great as is. I have a mesa mark III simul-class blue, mesa series 300 colisiem, marshall tsl orange pv renown 400,special 150,130,transtube bandit, crate stealth, fender twin reissue, and as many cabinets including a full stack marshall orange (8 vintage 30s') and I take the Stock HOT ROD to play. If you'r hard headed like me this will not help you but save your money and DO NOT modify your amp to accomadate a speaker you may like for an hour or a day!
