Fender Pawn Shop Fender ’51, Fender Pawn Shop Fender ’72, Fender Pawn Shop Mustang Special: Vintage Style Guitars
Step right in to the Fender Pawn Shop Series of guitars, which just opened its doors with three new guitar models that "never were but should have been." These instruments are the Pawn Shop Fender ’51, the Pawn Shop Fender ’72, and the Pawn Shop Mustang Special.
Fender notes that the new guitars were inspired by the eccentric Fender creations of the mid-’60s to mid-’70s era that sometimes found their way to the outside world and into the more esoteric pages of the company's history. If Fender could go back in time, it would have made the Pawn Shop Series of guitars back then instead of now.
The Pawn Shop Fender ’51 (the yellow / black model) takes Fender elements from the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s and redefines them for the modern player. It has a Stratocaster body and a C-shaped Telecaster neck, with a single-coil Texas Special neck pickup, Fender Enforcer humbucking bridge pickup, and an early-’50s Precision Bass-style dual-knob chrome control plate. Other features include a maple fretboard with 9.5-inch radius and medium jumbo frets, master volume control with push-pull coil split function to get single-coil tone from the humbucking bridge pickup, three-position rotary pickup selector knob, ’70s-style hard-tail Stratocaster bridge, vintage-style tuners and strap buttons, and a deluxe gig bag.
Skipping some years in between, the Pawn Shop Fender ’72 (the mint / white model) combines an unusual combination of classic design elements, says Fender, such as the semi-hollow Stratocaster body with an F hole. According to the manufacturer, the result of these oddities is a distinctive instrument with a huge sound. Other features include a U-shaped Telecaster neck, rosewood fretboard with 9.5-inch radius, 6105 frets, Fender Wide Range humbucking neck pickup and Fender Enforcer humbucking bridge pickup, early-’50s Precision Bass-style dual-knob chrome control plate with master volume and center-detented pickup blend controls, ’70s-style hard-tail Stratocaster bridge, ’70s-style Fender "F" tuners, mint green pickguard, bullet truss rod, three-bolt neck attachment, and a deluxe gig bag.
The Pawn Shop Mustang Special (the blue model) offers more "classic" features, such as the modified offset Mustang body and a 24-inch short-scale maple neck with a ’60s-era C shape. Comfortable for players accustomed to vintage-style instruments, the Mustang Special also features a rosewood fretboard with 9.5-inch radius, medium jumbo frets, dual Fender Enforcer humbucking pickups with ’70s-style covers, pickup toggle switch, three-way coil selector slide switch for each humbucking pickup (enabling 18 different tonal options), mint green pickguard, ’70s-style hard-tail Stratocaster bridge, vintage-style tuners and strap buttons, and a deluxe gig bag.

Hi,
As an FYI, the "new" 51 is a duplicate (not inspired from the 50-70's) of the 2004-06 Squier 51. wikipedia has the write-up and I own many 51's which is why I know a bit about them.
The Squier 51 may have been inspired but the Pawn Shop 51 is a duplicate of the Squier. In many cases the Squier 51 sold new for under $100 as there was no market. The current used market is $125 - $250.
thanks..pete.

"The more esoteric pages of the company's history" - nicely said:. Anyway, Fenders will be Fenders, they are simply great instruments. I'm really sorry that I only once had the chance to play one, but it was a great experience.
