Fender Standard Fat Strat: Once Upon A Time In A Mexican Strat Factory
Though in general (as I've stated time and time again) wood is warm, clean and provided by nature, not all wood is created equal. The Fender Standard Fat Strat may be a gem or a lemon depending on the piece of wood its fashioned from down in Mexico, but in this case, it's righter than the price.
J. Irving-Giles talks about his own South of the Border six-string and plays a lick or two.
J. IRVING-GILES: Hi. This is J. Irving-Giles with Gearwire.Com, and today I’ve got the Fender Standard Fat Strat. It’s also sometimes referred to as an HSS because it has one humbucker and two Fender standard single coils. It’s got an Alder body, and this particular model has a maple neck although some of them come with rosewood necks. You get your option there. It’s got Fender standard tuners and the Strat’s made in Mexico. I’ve heard mixed reviews. Some people get Mexican Strats and they swear that they’re just as good quality as the American models, and some people get them and they’re complete trash. There’s a lot of variance just between these modelsbut I think this one turned out pretty well.
So right now, we’ve got the pickup on the humbucker. It’s got the five-pickup selector. All right, we’ll start with the bridge pickup and give it a listen.

All right. And then next lets move up all the way up to the neck o the hear the difference, and the neck is just a single coil right here.

All right. Now we have it on the middle position.

All right, and that’s basically it. It’s got the two tone controls, just standard volume. That’s the Fender Standard Fat Strat.
