FH(fx) Algal Bloom Fuzz Pedal: Storied Fourth Knob Prophecy Comes True
I remember it like it was roughly two weeks bygone: FH(fx) announced the release of the Algal Bloom, a pedal only surpassed in fuzziness by the 1972 movie entitled Fuzz, starring Burt Reynolds in what many consider the biggest Oscar snubbing of all time when Yul Brenner did not win Best Supporting Actor for his role as "The Deaf Man."
All that aside, the Algal Bloom pedal has been updated in the short time before its shipment to include what scholars consider the "lost fourth knob." As was reported in the original article, this silicon diode and transistor based fuzz contained Trim (Choke), Gain (Bloom) and Level controls.
The update adds the "Starve" knob, which controls texture. It limits the amount of power reaching the circuit for that "dying battery" tone that everyone's been talking about.
Now that the third wheel of a fourth knob has been added, FH(fx) offers the pedal in a trapezoidal knob configuration or with the level control mounted on the side.

FH(fx) Algal Bloom kicks much ass!!!
With the "pedal boom" going on in full force there are plenty of fuzz boxes to feed our tone junk habit. If you're looking for the next or last fuzz box you'll ever have to mount on your pedalboard you've found it in the Algal Bloom Fuzz Pedal. This isn't just another pretty shiny box with cool knobs, it does what most "boutique" pedal builders boxes aren't doing and that's deliver classy, quality, usable tones. I see this pedal easily being a pedal that pedal junkies will be hunting down in the future, another classic collectable stompbox and so I say GET ONE! The can dial in grumbling low fuzz to scorching all out madness, and the definition you get with chord use is a big plus. There a lots of fuzz pedals that can produce a ton of insane sounding noises but most of the time none of those sounds are usable on stage or in the studio. My band has been working on our new record and we're proud to say that the Algal Bloom and also the 1134 Fuzz from FX(fx) are making appearances on a handful of tunes. For the price you will not find a better fuzz box, this baby stands up to much more expensive boxes proving once again that brand name, hype and reissues aren't always the best way to go. FH(fx) has created another killer workhorse stompbox to help us studio and stage hounds get the job done.
