Focusrite Saffire 6 USB: Versatility Is Not Just An Old, Old Ship

September 16, 2009
Focusrite Saffire 6 USB

Focusrite has been usually associated with premium quality audio equipment, one of the notable lines of products that exemplify this is the Saffire series, known for impressing many music makers with its high-quality Focusrite preamps. In an effort to establish the Saffire sound into the works of more musicians, a more affordable option has been developed by Focusrite. The Focusrite Saffire 6 USB brings in that Saffire sound in an instant.

The Saffire 6 USB is a new 2-in/4-out USB audio interface. The two hybrid XLR/1/4" TRS input ports terminate into two renowned Focusrite preamps. These ports also can be switched into either phantom power, pad, or instrument modes for versatility. Add to that MIDI input and output ports, and you've got for yourself an instant recording package on the go. Switchable headphone output and monitor outputs on either 1/4" jacks or RCA phono outs give flexible output options as well, which can also be used to route two stereo pairs, making the Saffire 6 USB also a good option for DJs. The mixer section also allows blending of your input and the signal playing back from your computer.

Examples of these include the Focusrite Plug-in Suite, Xcite+ bundle, Novation's Bass Station soft synth and over 1 GB of royalty-free samples from Loopmasters and 'Mike the Drummer'. The Focusrite Saffire 6 USB is projected to become available by October 2009 with an MAP of 199.99 USD.

As an owner of a Saffire 6, I can tell you that the mic-pres are all that they're made out to be: by far the best for a consumer-level product. The Saffire is rugged and outfitted with every option that the home audio enthusiast needs for easy plug and play recording. The interface is also great for DJs and remote recording of live audio on a computer. With the Saffire 6, my laptop computer is transformed into a versatile recording station with super low latency and pristine audio quality. I recommend it.

I can't get mine to work

I've heard that the Saffire 6 USB is awesome. However, I can't get my brand new PC to recognize it as a recording input. I don't know if it has something to do with Window 7 or what. If anyone knows anything that could help me I'd appreciate it.

you should also check your soundcard settings. The usb soundcard device thingy should be selected as your sound card so you can disable or remove the old one inside your pc.
