Fostex PM0.5n Near-Field Studio Monitors Now Shipping

January 21, 2011
Fostex released the new PM0.5n near-field studio monitors with 70W of bi-amped power and full-range performance.

New from Fostex, the PM0.5n near-field studio monitors have been upgraded and improved to offer 70W of bi-amped power and full-range performance.

Ideal for smaller studios requiring near-field monitoring, the PM0.5n was designed to provide full-range performance with exceptional neutrality even at high sound pressure levels (SPL). The near-field monitor is compact, making it easy to place it in even the most confined or awkward spaces. According to the manufacturer, dispersion from the two-way ported enclosure is tailored to deliver superb sound almost regardless of room acoustics. The unit also features a UFLC 20 mm soft dome HF unit and 130 mm LF woofer and input gain control.

Based on the PM0.5mk2, the new PM0.5n sports improved components and redesigned cabinets. The LF drivers employ a mixture of cut and milled fibers that are made from aromatic polyamide and then impregnated with resins to get high rigidity and optimum damping. The cone has an olefin film thermally adhered to its surface to control frequency response and to establish long term reliability, while the center dust cap is made of non-wood cellulose material and is also injected with resin. To get very low distortion, the voice coil is made of pure copper wire.

To keep the PM0.5n lightweight and stable, Fostex used a 20 mm soft dome tweeter with the company's UFLC technology (Poly Urethane Film Laminated Cloth). What's more, the amplifiers are calibrated to match the performance capability of the drivers, and the PM0.5n monitors are magnetically shielded for proximity to video monitors. A silk-screen Fostex logo and blue LED round out the unit.

Fostex PM0.5n features:

  • Based on the high-performance audio quality from PM0.5mk2, with improved drivers
  • Glossy front baffle with gently tapered top, available in black or white finish

The Fostex PMO.5n near-field

By: bookshelf speakers (not verified)

The Fostex PMO.5n near-field studio monitors will certainly be something to look forward to the smaller studios!! They will be happy that they now have an improved and upgraded PMO.5n that will help them to do a better job of providing a full-range performance with exceptional neutrality even when at high sound pressure levels!! I will help them to stay ahead of competitions where there was no scope for it earlier!! I am sure that things are really looking bright for these small time players!!
